Teaching Interactivity
I’ve lived long enough to understand that my best form or learning is through primarily kinesthetic methods and secondarily through visual. Meaning, I learn best when I’m able to implement the principles learned in real time. For this reason, I utilize kinesthetic and visual tactics when lecturing.
The Method: During the lecture, students go to the User Inyerface page and take notes of what is and isn’t working from a UI perspective.
The Result: Due to the site’s intentionally frustrating design, this practice helps to raise awareness to the importance of clean and functional UX/UI design.
The Method: To prepare students for workplaces, specifically corporate, “technobabble” jargon is introduced to them through the analogy of a restaurant.
The Result: At the conclusion of the lecture, students will have a high level introduction to these terms as it relates to their role as interactive designers.
